These gift ideas for animal lovers range from beautiful hummingbird pendants to a hands-on day at a horse therapy ranch. I’ve also included animal print duvet covers, Grumpy Cat gift ideas, and other gifts for animal lovers that will help you choose something perfect and meaningful.
Hummingbird necklace. A Carnevale Sterling Silver Blue Mix Hummingbird Pendant Necklace with Swarovski Elements is a beautiful gift for an animal lover who also wears jewelry. I love animals but I never wear earrings, rarely wear necklaces, and avoid bracelets with a passion. This beautiful hummingbird pendant wouldn’t be the right gift for an animal lover like me, but it might be perfect for the person you’re shopping for.
When you’re searching for the perfect gift for someone who loves animals, you need to know a little about their personality, style, and tastes.
Plush stuffed wolf. The exact opposite of a hummingbird necklace is a Cuddlekins Wolf. Cuddlekins is a line of super soft realistic animals by Wild Republic, who makes gifts for animal lovers. This plush stuffy is a perfect gift for young animal lovers, or animal lovers who are young at heart.
A day at a wildlife museum. A museum is different than a zoo, which some animal lovers protest. A National Museum of Wildlife Art is different than a museum because it focuses on animals and art. Buy a couple tickets for your animal lover, and gift her with a day at the museum. And make sure you listen to Winnie the Pooh, and spend time listening to the animals at the museum. “Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem.” – A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh.
A day at a horse therapy ranch. My mom lives in a group home on an acreage outside of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. The seven horses who live on the acreage aren’t certified for horse therapy, but even so it’s amazing to simply pet and be with the horses is amazing! A wonderful gift for animal lovers is an afternoon at a ranch, with horses who are specially trained. You might even ask the therapist (not the horse, but the horse trainer therapist) to give your animal lover a tour of the ranch.
A day at the zoo. Finding the right gifts for animal lovers requires you to know their likes and dislikes. As I mentioned above, some animal lovers have ethical problems with keeping animals at the zoo or aquarium, while other animal lovers could spend days or weeks wandering around the zoo. If your animal lover likes zoos, treat her to a full day of relaxed wandering around the pens and cages.
Grumpy Cat gift for animal lovers! If you haven’t heard of Grumpy Cat, you need to Google him. The Gund Grumpy Cat Plush Stuffed Animal Toy is a super cute gift for animal lovers, even if they’ve never heard of Grumpy Cat. Gifts for cat lovers (grumpy or otherwise) also include t-shirts, books, calendars, and coffee mugs. The cool thing about Grumpy Cat gifts is that they’re not only for Grumpy Cat fans. I’ve never visited the Grumpy Cat website or Facebook page, but I love the plush Grumpy Cat stuffy. Gund makes great gifts for animal lovers – especially when you listen to Calvin and Hobbes’ take on the world: “You know, sometimes the world seems like a pretty mean place. That’s why animals are so soft and huggy.” ― Bill Watterson.
“Tails” from a veterinarian. In All My Patients Have Tales: Favorite Stories from a Vet’s Practice, veterinarian Jeff Wells tells stories featuring a turkey attack, porcupine-quill covered terriers, a pregnant male cat, a heavy-metal Chihuahua with road burn, an ornery pygmy donkey, a giant hog, a constipated cow, and many others. This is a perfect gift for animal lovers and anyone who has ever thought about becoming a veterinarian.
A book of wildlife photography. A different take on the “tails” from a veterinarian gift idea for animal lovers is 50 Years of Wildlife Photographer of the Year: How Wildlife Photography Became Art by the Natural History Museum, edited by Rosamund Kidman Cox. It features many of the greatest nature photographs of all time and includes an incredible variety of styles, skills and approaches to wildlife photography. This gift idea for animal lovers has just been published, and offers a whole new perspective on wildlife and photography.
A gift to the SPCA for a horse stay. The BC SPCA cares for more than 70 horses a year, and the majority of these horses have experienced cruelty. When the horses go to the SPCA, they are often very thin and are desperate for medical attention and grooming. Horses are very expensive to care for – they need special facilities to house them and health care from specialized veterinarians. A thoughtful gift for animal lovers who want to help care for horses is a donation to the horse stay program at an SPCA or horse facility.
Animal print duvet cover. The Street Revival Rainbow Leopard Full Comforter Set is a fun gift for animal lovers. It’s a soft, luxurious comforter set that is easily washed in the washer and dryer (no dry cleaning or hand washing for this animal lovers’ gift!). The pattern isn’t gaudy – it’s bright and lively and perfect for a pre-teen or young teenager.
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul. This gift for animal lovers should be in my blog post that shares Gift Ideas for Dogs and Dog Owners. Whether or not your animal lover is into dogs, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul: Stories of Canine Companionship, Comedy and Courage is an inspiring collection of stories and tale after tale of healing, connection and love. These stories can easliy be re-read and re-read, offering hours of inspiration and warmth. Dog lovers, animal behavior experts, dog trainers, veterinarians and regular folks share their stories of love, rescue, death and love.
“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” – Josh Billings.
I welcome your thoughts on these gifts for animal lovers – especially if you have an idea that I can add to this list!
